Unlikely.  For a world war you need major powers on different sides.  But
assuming that the likely suspect (Bin Laden and his organization) turns
out to be the guilty party, then we are likely to see action against the
Taliban, who have no friends among major powers.

But it would be nearly impossible for the US to do anything substantial to
remove the Taliban in Afghanistan without real support of Russia and
acquiescence from Pakistan.  Neither seems likely, but neither is
impossible.

If it's war it will be one-sided.  And if it isn't going to be one-sided
then there won't be war.
