Betty. Not long after Jon and I started dating, I told him I wanted to meet his mother. It was the greatest trip - Jon called Betty and told her we were coming, we hopped in the car, drove straight through from Palo Alto, and showed up in the middle of the night. Betty always greeted me with the warmest hug. When I was with her, I felt transported to another world. Time with her was marked by her voice - beautiful and clear like a bell - her amazing optimism, her honesty, and of course her music. I grew up in a somewhat musical family, but it was nothing like this! Jon and Betty sang so much together, others joined in too. When Rosalie came along, and then Arnon, Betty would get down a box of musical instruments for them to play with. Seeing her with my children, her grandchildren, I felt she was filling them all the way up with her love. I am honored to have known her, loved her. I am honored to have her influence live on in my family. Her health was never good during the time I knew her, but she kept on. Now she is gone, and we miss her. Janet Smith
